Recently, the Year 5/6 Koalas investigated what conditions Mould need in order to grow on food through designing and carrying out a scientific investigation. The three variables investigated were light, moisture and heat. Students compared two samples of bread, and how one of these variables influences growth.

Success criteriaincluded:
  • Planning- creating an inquiry question,
  • Writing a prediction and identifying variables,
  • Collecting results- constructing tables and graphs to show growth,
  • Discussion – explaining results, revising predictions and reflecting on the process.
Below are some photos demonstrating students planning and collecting their results.
