UD22 LIVE! – Music Mayhem at Marion

What happens when you put 100 primary school kids from different schools and 4 stringed Ukuleles’ together? Total mayhem and way too much fun!

The ukulele is not only the world’s most popular musical instrument ….  IT’S ALSO THE COOLEST! Well, that’s what the students from Marion and Fulham Gardens Primary School’s think.

Senior students from both Marion Primary School and FGPS who have been learning to play the ukulele this year joined to form one ensemble, in an event to celebrate the ukulele and the joy of making music in a collaborative performance showcasing their talents. Titled UD22 LIVE! for Ukulele Day 2022, the event was held on Thursday, 29th September and organised by the very talented tutor, Mr Rick Whitehead. It was a vision that eventuated after teaching at both schools for 5 years and made sense that the students could meet and perform together. After its trial success last year, all involved were keen to continue and evolve the program to include an all-in jam along session, class performance items, and groups of students forming to teach each other new songs.

This year, the highlight was playing and singing the popular ‘Try Everything’ from the Disney movie ‘Zootopia’, which gives a strong message of giving everything a go and not giving up. The song was led by former Marion Primary School student and former The Voice contestant, Ethan Hall.

A rewarding and exciting experience for all students involved, who are not only learning and performing a musical instrument, but making friendships and performing with other schools, that may one day grow to include more schools statewide.

Attached is the full program outline for the day including all the songs performed:
