Last week, Fulham Gardens Primary School was invited to attend a very special function for 2025 Premier’s Reading Challenge at the Sanctuary Function Centre, Adelaide Zoo. FGPS was one of 55 schools in the state with outstanding achievement in this year’s challenge. The program for the day started with Mark Soderstrom introducing proceedings, followed by The Hon Blair Boyer giving a speech and reading an excerpt from his favourite childhood book, The Time Machine by H G Wells.
The Hon Peter Malinauskas followed by keeping it lighthearted and speaking to the students of a personal story with his own children about the joy of receiving a certificate for completing the challenge. He then unveiled the 2026 poster winners with their brightly coloured artwork, spotting a crows gurnsey and jokingly unable to find a port power one in the artwork.
Medals and certificates were presented to the students who received a gift bag of books. Our chosen FGPS student representatives Ivy Gandhi and Koda Worthington, proudly received the medals and had photos taken with the Minister and Premier.
Light refreshments were served for all the guests in attendance whilst students took the opportunity to talk to the Ambassadors and Authors (including my favourite childhood author Mem Fox!).
Students and school groups were treated to free tickets into the zoo for the afternoon before heading back to school to share the stories of the day.
