This week the year 4/5 Raptors class looked a little deeper into the crust of things when discussing the topic of ‘Pizza’.

Using Edward De Bono’s ‘Six Thinking Hats’ as a guide, the class pulled apart their pizzas into the different areas of  technology, science, engineering, critical thinking, arts, math through to hosting their own pizza shop.

Researching current lifestyles and the changes it may impact on in the fast food sector, types of ovens used and cooking methods such as wood fire, gas and electric.

Discussing the science including, healthy eating choices, making dough and what makes it rise, through to heat impact on foods, cooked versus uncooked foods.

Critical thinking including scenario’s such as how our eating habits have changed due to immigration and working schedules, and planning behind opening a pizza shop in Fulham Gardens.

Designing pizza logo’s on boxes, menu’s, naming their businesses, delving deeper into where pizza originated from and how our cultural society in Australia has changed.

Researching ingredients, costing, profit and loss, how many pizza shops are currently in our area, and franchises.

Students worked in groups to create their individual signature pizza, calculate ingredients and cost through to making the finished product in our FGPS kitchen. Students opened up their pop up pizza shops, inviting their families to join in for the opening day.
