On Monday the 27th of October, our Year 6 students headed to the West Lakes Aquatics Centre for an exciting day on the water. Despite the overcast weather, students took part in kayaking, canoeing and sailing sessions led by qualified instructors.

The aim of the day was to develop a wide range of knowledge, skills, understanding and attitudes across different aquatic activities. Students worked on:

  • Aquatic activity skills and techniques
  • Water confidence and water safety
  • Survival in and on the water
  • Understanding environmental factors
  • Safe rescue of others
  • Self-reliance and social skills

It was wonderful to see students challenge themselves, collaborate with peers and build confidence while learning vital water safety skills. A big thank you to the staff and instructors who supported this successful and memorable experience!

Here is what the seniors had to say about the day

My favourite was the sailing – it was fun controlling the back sail – Braxton
