Room 6 Bees have been exploring the story ‘Somebody’s Land’ by Adam Goodes and Ellie Laing during English lessons. This powerful text provided a meaningful context for Reconciliation Week, prompting rich conversation about acknowledgement, respect, and inclusion. To further engage with its themes, students paired up with their Year 4 Wizard buddies to create artworks on wood rounds.
Additionally, students created artwork using water colour paint to retell key events from the story. Once the artworks were completed, students used iPads to record themselves discussing the significance of each piece. Students described the inspiration for their creations and articulated the messages behind them, sharing their insights and story comprehension.
Throughout this project, working together with the buddies fostered a strong sense of collaboration and respectful inquiry, allowing students to express themselves while learning from each other. By combining storytelling, art, and digital technology, we celebrated Reconciliation Week in a way that was engaging, meaningful, and relevant to our ongoing learning journey.
