Our Fulham Gardens Primary School Principal had a close encounter with the cuddly kind last week. Living in the hills near Sturt Gorge, it’s expected that blue tongue lizards, kookaburras, echidnas and snakes are common visitors. However, he definitely wasn’t expecting a Koala in his backyard.

Arriving home to his beloved Labrador Retrievers keeping vigil at the bottom of the blossoming plum tree. This was unusual behaviour indeed. He knew something was up, literally. On closer inspection a new visitor was firmly clutching a mid-height branch. A beautiful koala was enjoying the view from above, and the 3 Labradors were quite intrigued by their furry friend.

A quick call to Koala Rescue and the young Koala was coaxed into a crate and released safely into the Sturt Gorge.
