Many people would not be aware that the ukulele is the world’s most popular musical instrument. This humble little instrument has been the top of its class for years in music stores where it has been outselling other musical instruments including guitars for over 20 years. This trend is being repeated in music education classes around the world and Fulham Gardens Primary School is no exception. Fulham Gardens first joined the Ukulele Revolution in 2019 with the purchase of 30 beginner ukuleles thanks to the fundraising efforts of the school community.

Now, well established in the school, our ukulele program is about to receive a significant boost. Ukulele friends from the vibrant Adelaide ukulele community, who conduct events to showcase the talents of emerging uke players, have made available, a donated $1000 to assist a ukulele program for children. Fulham Gardens Primary School is very fortunate to have been chosen to receive this grant.

We have decided to use the donation to upgrade our set of ukuleles. These higher quality Makala brand ukuleles produce a better sound and are more enjoyable to play. They also look ultra-cool with their two-tone colouring! We will be seeking ideas from our ukulele classes about what we should do with our current set of Mahalo ukes which, due to the care our students have shown, are in very good condition. Stay tuned!
