This year’s theme is ‘Now more than ever ‘. It’s meant as a reminder to all Australians that the fight for equality and justice for Indigenous Australians must continue.

The National Reconciliation Week 2024 artwork and design represent the momentum of the themeNow More Than Ever ‘The chevron, a universal symbol for pointing the way, signifies advancing as one as we look towards a reconciled future; and the vibrant artwork of Gubbi Gubbi artist Maggie Douglas encourages connecting with one another, understanding and continuing to move forward.

FGPS students learnt about National Reconciliation Week through diverse mediums throughout the year levels. Some classes working with their buddies to create posters displayed around the school.

Ms. Julie taught students about the Aboriginal Flag and how to dot paint an image. The dot painting reminded the Rec/year 1 class of repeated patterns and 2D shape learning in Math.

FGPS Playgroup families joined in the activities with play dough templates.
Students have also explored cooking in the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen using indigenous ingredients from our garden such as lemon myrtle and saltbush. Recipes containing bush honey, macadamia and kangaroo were included on the menu for the week.
Ms. Julie also brought in some very special aboriginal artifacts to teach the students the meaning of paintings, sports played and a real emu egg!
To finish the week, parents and friends were invited to participate in the mid-term assembly presented by the Dragons class and share a morning tea hosted by the governing council.
